Big Fall Fattie as the season winds down

Dec 4th and no snow on the ground, water temps are in the low 40's and muskie closer is just around the corner. I offered a seat in the boat to a new to muskie angler and he jumped at it. We started to troll a regular fall troll and as we did we made some adjustment for the conditions. It all paid off when this fattie hit a legend perch bait.

Not bad for Russells first fish!

Congrats on the piggie!

Mattawa trip, L'Auberge des Pionniers

A bunch of buds and myself rented a cabin at this great park, good lodging and beautiful scenery. A few fish caught in the short time we were there and I would definitely go back. Rick(lodge owner) was an excellent host, his cabins were very nice and the launch was great.

My bud Brian with a small one

Brian with his pb 46"

A couple decent pike was my best for the outing

Good times after fishing with some friends

great scenery

Good times!!

Fly Fishing????

Yes, I'm hooked on fly fishing and hopefully will be successful enough to post some pics of fish on the fly.
Here is a picture of my first fish ever on the fly rod and man was it fun. This Brookie came from the eastern townships in Quebec, can't wait to go back...

Muskie newbie gets his first

Getting out with someone who has never fished Muskie is always exciting, for them and for me. The anticipation of having them hook and release their first Muskie is more enjoyable than doing it myself. Fathers Day 2012 saw Ian coming out and looking forward to the time in the boat and the prospect of catching a Muskie.
Well, we did it, I had Ian casting a Topwater while I was searching with other baits and trying to see if anything was active. This Muskie slammed Ians bait and took him for a short ride, in the net, hooks out and a quick picture...congrats on the first of many Ian!

Lake Trout down rigging fun

Big Rideau lake offers much to the avid angler, Pike, Bass, panfish and Lake Trout.
This trip saw my good friend Akira and I targeting the Lakers by means of the downriggers, slow trolling and flashy spoons.
It wasn't long into it we had the first one on and a dogged fight it was, strong fish with lots of head shakes.
Into the net it went and was released to fight again another day.

We were soon onto another smaller one that was destined for the smoker, Akira has a great smoker and can make awesome tasting trout.
Soon we had 2 on ice and then it turned hot.....stupidly hot, so hot it was time to get off the water.
The biggest was just shy of 30" , it was a nice thick Trout.
Lots of fun!!

Ottawa Muskie Opener Success

Friday June 17th was the opener on the Ottawa River for Muskie, I took the day off work and headed out for a solo run in search of a toothy beast.
After a bit of searching for an ideal spot with the right conditions, I started targeting an isolated weed bed next to some deep water. Eight casts in and this 48" fat beauty made a B-line for my jackpot and missed, I continued the retrieve and she came in again.....and missed again. I regained the action and continued the retrieve and this time she grabbed it, I set the hook and the fight was on. A brief fight with some great headshakes and a decent run it was time for the net. Netting a big fish alone is, well, interesting. I finally got the net under her and even a picture.
Great way to start the season.
