Friday June 17th was the opener on the Ottawa River for Muskie, I took the day off work and headed out for a solo run in search of a toothy beast.After a bit of searching for an ideal spot with the right conditions, I started targeting an isolated weed bed next to some deep water. Eight casts in and this 48" fat beauty made a B-line for my jackpot and missed, I continued the retrieve and she came in again.....and missed again. I regained the action and continued the retrieve and this time she grabbed it, I set the hook and the fight was on. A brief fight with some great headshakes and a decent run it was time for the net. Netting a big fish alone is, well, interesting. I finally got the net under her and even a picture.
Great way to start the season.
